Heartbeat Opera invites you to its 3nd Annual Spring Festival, featuring intimate and daring productions of:

2. Bizet's CARMEN: Sun 5-21 7 PM, Tues 5-23 9:30 PM, Thurs 5-25 8 PM, Sat 5-27 8 PM, Sun 5-28 5:30 PM. Adapted by Louise Proske (Yale 'XX)

3. COLLABORET: Wed 5-24 7 PM

Tuesday, May 23 is Opening Night Heartbeat Opera: BUTTERFLY and CARMEN double-header

1. Puccini's BUTTERFLY: Adapted by Ethan Heard (Yale '12) and Jacob Ashworth: White male artists invented the tragic geisha, Madama Butterfly, and in so doing fueled a stereotype that has dominated Western imagination ever since. This daring new adaption of Puccini's iconic romance explodes that legacy of fetishization and exposes the Sorrow left behind.

2. Bizet's CARMEN: Adapted by Louise Proske (Yale 'XX). The border is a place of intense turmoil. This radical new adaptation strips down Bizet's explosive masterpiece to the four central characters as they hurl themselves against real and imaginary fences. Carmen's existential dare seduces the enemy in uniform -- but in the game of sexual transgression, which lines cannot be crossed?

3. COLLABORET: Wed 5-24 7 PM. Eclectic music theater.
